The Harnett
County Health Department mission is to prevent illness, diseases,
and injuries, promote healthy lifestyles, and keep the environment clean, healthy
and safe. The health department is divided into the following main divisions:
Adult Health, Child Health, Environmental Health, Health Education, HIV/AIDS &
STD Education, Healthy Harnett-Healthy Carolinians, Home Health, Social Work,
and Women Infants & Children (WIC).
The Adult Health Division offers a variety of services for
adult women and men. The Adult Health Division offers the following are screening
services: Cholesterol, Blood sugar, Blood pressure, HIV counseling, HIV testing,
and Adult immunizations. Healthcare for children is provided by the Child Health
Division. The Child Health Division offers child checkups and complete physicals
for kindergarten, daycare and head start programs. Health Education programs
are designed to promote wellness and healthy lifestyles.
An option to receive medical care in the privacy of ones home
or assisted living facility is offered by the Home Health Division. The Health
Care professionals of the Home Health Division provide a range of services that
include skilled nursing care, rehabilitation therapies and in-home assistance.
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants & Children
(WIC) provides women, infants and children up to five years of age with nutrition
education and supplementary nutritious foods, and referral to appropriate health
services.
